Facial skin is more sensitive than skin covering feet or arms. Yet for some people, facial skin is extremely sensitive to the point that finding skin care products is difficult. Sensitive skin may be dry, oily or combination just as less sensitive skin is characterized. Yet people with sensitive skin need something more to care for their skin.

Sensitive skin care products are made without harsh chemicals or fragrances that might irritate the skin. To provide the emollients needed, sensitive skin care products contain glycerin or essential oils. The glycerin is emollient rich element that softens skin. Essential oils in the right combination protect against acne flare-ups.

Skin color is also an indicator of skin sensitivity. People with fair, porcelain tone skin are more likely to have sensitive skin than are persons with more melatonin that creates a darker skin tone. Pale skin is particularly sun sensitive and prone to burn rather than tan. Sun screen that is made for sensitive skin in a high SPF is the most important beauty accessory for men or women with pale skin. Unfortuantely too many people with darker skin ignore or underutilize sun screen thinking that they are not as likely to get sunburned. Wrong! Sun damage to darker sensitive skin is just as serious as for pale skin.

Another problem for sensitive skin is break outs. Before shopping for sensitive skin products, women need to purge their make up bag. That two year old eye shadow and worn applicator as well as the foundation whose age is unknown are overdue to be trashed. Using expired products and dirty applicators are responsible for some skin sensitivities. If that’s the case, sensitive skin care products may be needed to get your skin back in shape. Remember to write purchase dates on every new cosmetic item and purge old items regularly to avoid creating skin sensitivities.

Other women have allergies that require gentle, hypo-allergenic products. Look on the label to review the ingredients in sensitive skin care products. Hypo-allergenic products are effective for sensitive skin unless there is a particular chemical or organic element to which you are allergic. To check for that element, carefully read the label.

Sensitive skin care products may cost more than general use skin care. The additional cost is worthwhile in saving your skin and avoiding a more expensive dermatologist’s bill for an allergic reaction. Skin care creams, cleansers and moisturizers that cover the face need to be the best quality you can afford. A person with highly sensitive skin also needs to use a hypo-allergenic shampoo and conditioner.

If you are not certain about the type of skin sensitivity you have, consult an aesthetician who can give a professional evaluation of your skin type and recommend appropriate sensitive skin care products. Some women may be able to purchase less expensive eye shadow, eye liner or lipstick. Just don’t skimp on sensitive skin care products that protect and enhance your skin’s appearance, suppleness and healthy glow.
