Vitamin C, the sunshine vitamin, is essential to maintaining healthy skin. Yet Vitamin C must be taken every day for maximum effect inside the body and applied daily to the skin to make the most of it’s anti-aging benefits.
The Vitamin C in the capsule can’t be crushed and placed on the skin. For Vitamin C to be absorbed by the skin it must first be converted into L-asorbic acid. This is a more complex process than what is required to add Vitamins A or E to a skin care product. Yet these pale in comparison to the skin regenerating properties of Vitamin C.
The L-ascorbic acid used in Vitamin C products must be maintained at a low pH level to be stable. High concentrations of Vitamin C are the most useful to the skin. Far too many skin care products boast “Vitamin C” on the packaging when the actual amont of that vitamin is minimal. A few drops of L-ascorbic acid does not make anything a genuine Vitamin C skin care product. Always read the label and don’t be fooled by the flashy advertising.
A high concentration of Vitamin C also provides a shield from the drying effects of sun exposure. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that has the ability to neutralize free radical damage that is aggravated by ultraviolet rays of the sun. Vitamin C is not a substitute for high SPF sunscreen applied separately or within the product. What Vitamin C does is go to work to relax wrinkled skin which gives a more supple, youthful appearance.
Another benefit of Vitamin C’s antioxidant properties is to restore the process of healthy cell reproduction. Young, healthy skin sheds dead cells and makes new cells more frequently than older skin. And the new skin cells of younger skin are precise duplicates that renew the firm appearance. Skin that ages and suffers from free radical damage tends to reproduce mutated cells, some of which make the dryness and stiffness of older skin worse over time. Using a Vitamin C skin care product to halt this free radical damage can subtract years off the visible appearance of the skin and do even more wonderful things for the health of skin at the unseen cellular level.
Vitamin C in skin care products stimulates the skin’s natural production of collagen. Forget the expensive collagen injections. The most natural appearing facial improvements come from stimulating the body’s own internal collagen rather than trying to stuff the facial wrinkles from the outside. With more collagen, the facial skin becomes softer and more relaxed.
Vitamins are not just for the inside of the body but for the body’s largest organ, the skin. Look for Vitamin C skin care products that can be used all over the body in lotions and creams. Doesn’t all your skin need the same protection as your facial skin? An all over healthy skin glow is the best anti-aging strategy to invest in for appearance and well being.
